One of the most versatile coaches ever at Sequoia, Andersen taught varsity football, basketball, baseball, tennis, golf and swimming. Named SPAL Basketball Coach of the Year in 1963, he developed the legendary Boys Night boxing program that his father helped initiate in 1932 with Athletic Director Frank Griffin. A champion boxer in the Navy, Andersen won the Pacific Coast middleweight championship at San Jose State and lost a disputed verdict in the NCAA finals. Although remembered at Sequoia for a succession of spectacular boxers, he tutored nearly all the gifted athletes in the school's golden era of athletics. Resides in Redwood City with his wife, Myrtle.
