Incubated in Sequoia’s rich soccer tradition, he was named to three all-league teams and selected MVP twice. Leading his team to league titles in 1994 and 1995, his career blossomed further during four years of stardom at San Jose State. He was Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year in 1997, four time all-conference selection and first-team All-American in 2000. A member of U.S. under-17, 18 and 20-year-old teams, he was drafted by Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes in 2000.
