Won regional championships in semi-pro baseball; high scorer with Beavers AC in Redwood City Industrial Basketball League, U.S. Air Force Sixth Ferry Command (Long Beach) in 1945-46. Coached Mount Carmel School to baseball and basketball championships; player-coach with Leonard Realty, top Bay Area semipro cage team. A top hitter for many seasons in Bay Area semipro baseball, and played in two World Tournaments during 11-year softball career. Redwood City Councilman and Mayor, 1950-66; County Supervisor 1973-78; U.S. Congressional Representative 1979-80; Regional Representative, U.S. Department of Transportation, 1981-82.
