Welcome
to the Sequoia High School Alumni Association’s
official Website. This medium allows us to reach so many
more interested people than the printed word and with nominal
cost. The printed word, however, in the form of our publication,
Smoke Signals, is still our primary instrument in reaching
card-carrying members of the Sequoia High School Alumni
Association, which has surpassed 3000. We strongly encourage
you to join us. A lifetime membership is only $35.00. You
will receive a membership card, a membership certificate
suitable for framing and a lifetime of our publications,
Smoke Signals. You will find a membership application on
this Website. If you are not already a member, please join
us. While we derive income from membership and the sale
of merchandise, our most recent major source of income
is our Sequoia Sport Hall of Fame ceremony and dinner.
We hope that you will be able to attend the next time it
is held. The date and other information about the event
will be published elsewhere on this Web site. It is something
that you will not want to miss.
In addition
to the services we provide to alumni such as acting as
a clearinghouse for reunions and publishing items of
general interest to our membership via the Alumni Association
newsletter, Smoke Signals, and other mailings, we are
also directly involved in helping Sequoia High School.
We directly help teachers and students with our annual
Cherokee Grants program for items or services not normally
funded by the District. We also award an annual “Spirit
of the Seal” scholarship.
We have
developed orientation materials for incoming students
and faculty on the history of Sequoia High School, the
campus and the school’s many traditions. We are working
to help increase the knowledge level of students regarding
Native American culture, in particular Cherokee, with special
emphasis on perpetuating the legacy of Cherokee scholar,
Sequoyah, as a symbol of learning, wisdom and self reliance.
Through our Athletic Review Committee, we are working with
the high school and the Sequoia Union High School District
to improve the image of over 100 years of Sequoia athletics.
Contributions you would wish to make toward the operating
costs inherent with all of our activities would be most
appreciated. Checks should be made payable
to SHSAA and mailed to the Sequoia High School Alumni Association,
P.O. Box 2534, Redwood City, CA 94064.
Thank
you for accessing our Web site and I hope that you find
the information contained here to be interesting and
informative.
In
the Spirit of Sequoia,
Ken
Rolandelli
President,
