An honored three-sport performer, he was named an All-PAL football guard in 1938 (a championship year) and also distinguished himself in baseball, basketball and track.  Marked for stardom after outstanding frosh-soph performances, he captained the Sequoia varsity in both junior and senior seasons.  A baseball injury pointed him to track, where he bettered the PAL discus record and excelled in the broad jump (now long jump).  Following a football season at Modesto Junior College, where he won all-league honors as a 180-pound guard, he served three years with the Navy in the South Pacific.  After World War II, he launched a 32-year career with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department.
