From the day he arrived on the Sequoia campus in the fall of 1936, he was a leader on the basketball court and baseball field. An all-league selection in both sports, he captained basketball and baseball teams, and his thirties cage squad went undefeated during the 1939-40 season. As a Navy fighter pilot, he saw action in the Pacific, and played baseball at Stanford both before and after World War II. Prominent in Atherton civic affairs, he served on both the Town Council and Planning Commission.
